How to Compare Plumber Quotes
Two plumbers, two very different bills. Here's what to compare before you choose.

Plumbing quotes differ mostly in how they're structured: a flat-rate quote covers the whole job; time-and-materials starts with an hourly rate plus parts. Neither is wrong — but compare like with like. A low hourly rate with an open-ended scope can end up above a higher flat rate with a defined one.
Check what the quote includes: the diagnostic fee (is it credited toward the work?), parts, cleanup, and warranty on labor. If a camera inspection is proposed, ask whether the fee is credited if you hire them for the repair. Get any change-order rule in writing — many companies require your approval before exceeding the quoted amount.
Finally, note what each plumber recommends. If one quotes a repair and another quotes a replacement, ask both to explain the reasoning in writing. Two honest professionals can disagree — the reason behind the recommendation is what you're really buying.
