How to Plan a Road Trip
A practical order of operations for planning a drive — route, stops, stays, and the car itself.

Good road trips are planned in a sensible order:
- Route first — map the drive and see how far each day's segment actually is. Navigation apps handle multi-stop routes well.
- Stops second — attractions, parks, and food along the route, not just at the destination.
- Stays third — book lodgings near where each day's driving should end, with free cancellation in case the road has other plans.
- The car last but not least — rental or your own, check roadside assistance coverage, and remember gas-price apps add up savings over long distances.
Packing: chargers and cables, offline maps, and a place for toll transponders.
