Treat tossers vs security cams: which pet camera features actually matter?
By Lucky Finds · Updated September 26, 2026
Two kinds of cameras get used to watch pets — and they're built for different things.
Pet-specific cameras (Furbo, Petcube) include pet-focused features: treat dispensers, barking alerts, and two-way audio designed to interact with your pet, not just record it.
General home cameras (Ring, Blink, Eufy) are usually cheaper per unit and great for multi-room coverage, but treat tossing and bark alerts are typically missing.
Before buying, check: whether cloud recording or alerts require a paid subscription, whether you need night vision, and how many cameras you actually need.
One camera can't give a lonely dog exercise or company — pair a camera with a walker, sitter, or enrichment toys for pets regularly left alone.
