What to Compare Before Booking a Hotel
Five things worth checking before you click reserve — they matter more than the headline price.

The sticker price is just the start. Before booking any hotel, compare:
- Total price — including resort fees, taxes, and any booking vs. property differences.
- Cancellation policy — flexible rates usually cost slightly more but can be worth it if plans might change.
- Room type and bed configuration — especially for families; 'sleeps 4' can mean very different setups.
- Location — check the actual address on a map, not just the neighborhood name.
- Direct vs. booking site — compare the hotel brand's own rate and member pricing; sometimes direct booking unlocks better rooms or perks.
If you travel often, loyalty programs can matter more than any single booking price. Check current prices and policies directly with the provider — details change frequently.
